Tatajuba is yellow exotic wood species which quickly darkens to brown color when exposed to sunlight. The surface often has a striking golden sheen. Tatajuba resembles Iroko in many ways in terms of hardness. When processed, it has a moderate dulling effect on the tools. Pre-drilling is necessary. Sometimes a streaky texture is visible in the radial section due to the alternating spiral grain, or a variegated texture due to irregular growth. The wood has a low to medium gloss. Tatajuba wood is very rich in tannin. Tatajuba is also very resistant to fungi and xerophytic wood-destroying fungi. Due to its high silicon content, this wood naturally qualifies for biohazard class 5 (end use in saltwater environments is easily possible).

Tatajuba has the highest possible natural durability index of 1 which means very high durability. The natural durability of wood according to EN 350-1,2 classifies wood species into durable, less durable and non-durable. The natural durability is the resistance of individual wood species against attack by wood-destroying organisms (insects and fungi).

Surface treatment:
Tatajuba underconstruction does not need a surface treatment before installation. To reduce the risk of side-cracking, it is recommended that all transverse cuts are coated with Osmo End Grain Sealing Wax 5735.
