An aluminium substructure joist provides absolute stability under all conditions compared to traditional wooden constructions. Aluminium profiles are dimensionally stable and perfectly straight. They do not suffer from cracking, warping, swelling, or shrinking – all typical issues that occur with wood due to climatic changes.
The aluminium joist offers virtually unlimited service life and material stability without any dimensional changes over time. Aluminium is an excellent choice for roof terraces and balconies, where material weight plays an important role.
This type of substructure joist allows for both visible and concealed fastening methods. The choice of connection depends on the decking species used. Some dense exotic hardwoods can only be installed with visible top-screw fastening. For concealed installation from above, we recommend using the Real DECK hidden clip system.
When using an aluminium substructure for your decking, always ensure you work with screws specifically designed for aluminium. We recommend using self-drilling screws MEX FLAT ALU.
